Policies
Adverse Weather Arrangement
With the exception of NOIP, other activities such as competitions, training sessions and tests will generally be postponed to a later day if suspension of classes is announced by the Education Bureau. Please monitor our website and Facebook page closely as the affected activity may be postponed to the next day soonest. Participants will not be notified individually.
Activities in progress when the suspension of classes announcement is made will continue until the end if the conditions are safe.
General and Competition Policies
Integrity is of utmost importance. Serious offenders of our rules can be permanently banned from participating in HKOI-affiliated activities (including NOIP).
Competitors may be disqualified or subject to marks deduction if they:
- – Have unauthorised articles, such as calculator, phone and paper, on the desk / in the pocket / in sight
- – Interfere with contest systems
- – Open the paper before being instructed to do so
- – Continue working after being told to stop
- – Disobey invigilators’ instructions
Competitors with special needs may state the assistance required at the time of application. No alternative time or venue will be arranged for any competitor.
HKOI Training Team Policies
Each day of training consists of two sessions: AM and PM. Attendance will be taken. A certificate of completion will be issued to members who attend at least 60% of the scheduled sessions. The Team Formation Test and APIO count as 2 sessions each.
To maintain an effective environment for teaching and learning, team members are expected to demonstrate good conduct at all times. Improper behaviours such as inappropriate language, excessive gaming, harassment, disobeying trainers’ instructions and misusing computing resources are not allowed. Students can be asked to leave, and/or expelled from the Team if such behaviours persist. Students with poor conduct, no matter inside or outside the Training Team, will not be selected to external competitions.
Responsibilities of External Competition Representatives
The opportunity of representing HKOI to other competitions is a special privilege. Therefore, representatives must attend all training sessions and events arranged for them, and comply with leaders’ and organiser’s instructions. Withdrawal is strictly not allowed.
HKOI Online Judge Usage Rules
The HKOI Online Judge is a shared learning platform for secondary school students and is supported by limited resources. All users must carefully read and abide by the Terms and Conditions. Users violating the rules and their school can be revoked access and penalised.
Programming Language Policies
Currently, the programming languages in use for HKOI are Pascal, C and C++. This will be reviewed when necessary or when there are changes to Appendix 3 of the Technology Education KLA – ICT – Curriculum and Assessment Guide (Secondary 4-6). Early notice will be given if we plan to remove a programming language. In spite of this, our recommended programming language is C++.
In addition, various international / regional competitions are considering dropping Pascal. Therefore an addition eligibility criterion will be added to the Team Formation Test starting from year 2017: contestants must only use the allowed programming languages for a particular event. For example, Pascal users will not be selected for the ACM-HK Collegiate Programming Contest. C and C++ are considered the same language for the purpose of this criterion. The details will be included in the Team Formation Test rules.
