A positive score in the Main Event is required to be eligible for the awards below.

Medals

  • The minimum score for a Gold medal is the highest score such that at least 4 contestants receive a gold medal.
  • The minimum score for a Silver medal is the highest score such that at least 12 contestants receive a gold or silver medal.
  • The minimum score for a Bronze medal is the highest score such that at least 24 contestantsreceive a medal.

Honourable Mentions

For those contestants who do not receive medals, the score necessary to achieve an Honourable Mention is the highest score such that at least 32 contestants receive either a medal or an Honourable Mention.

Individual Awards

The highest-scoring contestant studying at Secondary 4 / Grade 10 / Year 11 or below will be given the Best Young Contestant Award.

Eligible contestants who tie for the same highest score will all be awarded.

Grand School Prize

Each Gold, Silver and Bronze medallist will be awarded 5, 2 and 1 point(s) respectively. The sum of points for all medallists in a school will constitute the school score. The four schools with the highest school scores will be awarded Grand School Prizes.

In case of ties, the sum of the Main Event scores achieved by the contestants will be used as the tie-breaker.

Invitation to the HKOI Training Team

Gold, Silver and Bronze medallists will then be invited to join the HKOI Training Team for intensive training. Team Formation Test(s) will be held in April/May to select delegates to take part in external competitions. Note: the EGOI Hong Kong delegate will be selected from HKGOI medallists only.
